Tapteal Bend is a Tapteal Greenway property located on Van Giesen in north Richland. A small parking area located off the highway provides some parking. A large gate is at the bottom of the slope; you can walk around the gate and proceed onto the Tapteal Bend property. (There is also access at the north end of the property, take the Kingston road just before you get to the bridge and take the first left which is Hyde road. Hyde ends at the river where our sponsored boat launch is located. Park and enter from the north end. Make sure you have a WDFW access pass if you park inside the boat launch boundary.) An informational two panel kiosk is located near the center of the property providing background for the Tapteal project. There are approximately 6.7 acres in development at this time. Fortification of the river bank has been completed; eradication of noxious and invasive plants is under way and a series of interpretive nature walks are planned for the near future. This is a work in progress. We plan to establish a scholarship fund to pay for field trips to this parcel once we have our interpretive trails in place. The TGA has also been stockpiling educational materials for use at this site that include water quality testing equipment, waders and PFDs, field guides and bug collecting gear. Our goal is to make this an environmental education park suitable for field trips and guided hikes. Feel free to visit this project and watch us develop the project. If you have ideas to help us enhance the park please use the Contact page.
